e-contents of PG and Research Department of Chemistry
The department of Chemistry of C. Abdul Hakeem College was started as one of the earliest department in the year 1967. B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes were started in 1970 and 1984 respectively. The department was elevated into a research department in the year 1992 by offering M.Phil. (Full-Time and Part-Time) and Ph.D. programme was started in the year 2010. The B.Sc. Chemistry course was started in the evening college from the year 2015.
To drive more light to brighten the realms of research, the department subscribes to journals such as the Indian Journal of Science, Current Science and Bulletin of Material Science. Some of the advanced facilities in the labs are Electronic Balance up to four digits, Digital Conductivity Bridge, Digital Potentiometer, Hot Air Woven with Electronic control and so on. Staff members are helping the University in different capacities such as Examiners, Additional Chief Superintendents, Members of Board of Examiners, Members of Board of Studies and so on. Their specialized areas of interest are Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry.
The department has excellent infrastructure and well qualified faculty members, also engaged in active research in several areas of chemistry. Major research projects funded by UGC, DRDO & TNSCST are being carried out successfully by the staff members. Both faculty members and research scholars have published many research papers in national and international seminars/conferences/workshops. Government of India has accorded the department the status of DST-FIST sponsored department with instrumental facilities such as FT-IR and UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The department is well equipped with electrochemical work station, particle size analyzer, spincoater, probe sonicator and polishing machine, etc. The chemistry department is striving towards providing quality education and research training to the students.
The department is an active member of RUSAC (Rural Society for the Advancement of Chemistry) and renders remarkable service to the votaries of chemistry by organizing science quiz, science exhibitions and guest lectures. Students of chemistry are getting recruited in the campus interviews conducted by top concerns such as Thirumalai Chemicals, Malladi Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Limited, TUV-SUD South Asia Pvt. Ltd., SVISS Lab, Sanmar Chemicals and so on.
The department enjoys the privileged honour of generating Rank holders in the University Examinations.
