Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory

India's First OIE Reference Lab - There are 35 reference laboratories designated by OIE functioning in the USA, 38 in UK, 25 in France, 19 in Canada, 17 in Germany, 13 in Japan, 11 in Australia, 3 in China, and one in India, i.e. AAHL at C.Abdul Hakeem College, Melvisharam.

Addressed as the nerve centre of Research activities, the department of Zoology has carved a golden niche in the campus in high appreciation of its achievements and round the clock research activities. Of the 13 staff members, 12 are Ph.D.s and 1 M.Phil. All are in the regular approved vacancies.

Well learned staff members in the department are specialized in Environmental toxicology, Entomology, Bio-control, Aquaculture, Biodiversity, Marine Ecology, Endocrinology and so on. The massive departmental library with its pleasing assortment of more than 1500 books is no doubt an intellectual treasure of rare distinction. The department has the unique honour of flashing its faculty on the National and International academic canvas of Seminars, Workshops, Conferences and other such brilliant get togethers.

With several ongoing Research Projects, the research labs do buzz with untiring activity with sky as the only limit. These innovative investigations are supplemented by net facility for downloading Indian and International Journals of mesmerizing scientific repute. With its subscription to 22 Journals, the department excels in all its search and research strivings to cater most exemplarily to the scientific and technological needs of the community.

The departments National and International links and collaborations for teaching and research are multidimensional in their eminence placing the college on the Everest of unprecedented popularity. The UGCs special support for PG Development, DST-FIST fund for developing science and technology; financial assistance by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology under TNSCST Students Projects Scheme and fellowships to the research scholars do hold mirror to the unstinted efforts of the faculty members and their genuine zeal to excel in all academic exercises that culminate in ennobled and community-oriented innovations.

The torch of research is kindled to glow bright in these research labs by drawing to its effulgent brilliance scores of scholars pursuing their M.Phil., and Ph.D., Courses which are accomplished with ever inspiring guidance and ungraphable hard labour. Scholars and their Guide Supervisors are not like the fish and the fisherman but like the fish and water. The academic machinery of the department is so magnificent that it has produced more than 15 Ph.D.s and 40 M.Phils.

One staff member has the unique privilege of receiving the Tamil Nadu Senior Scientist Award as valid proof of his untiring strivings. The department has its most exalted representation in the College Scholarship Affairs, Career Guidance & Placement Cell, Internal Quality Assurance Cell and the College NAAC Committee.
