Melvisharam Muslim Educational Society Established in 1918

The Melvisharam Muslim Educational Society was established in 1918. Late Nawab C. Abdul Hakeem Sahib, a leading Business Magnate, Philanthropist and Nationalist of fame, was its Founder President, The Society has gradually progressed across these 10 decades.

To start with, there was only a Primary School under this Society. And at present, it manages 13 Institutions from the nursery level to a First Grade College with Five P.G. Departments and Five Research Departments. They include M.M.E.S. Arts and science college for women and C. Abdul Hakeem College of Engineering and Technology, an I.S.O certified Centre of learning.

The College was instituted in the year 1965 with just Pre-University Course, in the local orphanage buildings. Subsequently the M.M.E.S. acquired a site of more than 67 acres, on the eastern outskirts of the town, on the Chennai-Bangalore Trunk road, and constructed imposing buildings to house the College and the Hostel. The college is affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore. The college has been Re-accredited by the NAAC with 'A+' Grade.

The fabulous jewel of the Madras Presidency, Nawab C. Abdul Hakeem Saheb, one of the most respected natives of Melvisharam, was a prince among traders and served as the Sheriff of Madras. He cherished a noble dream of transforming his town into a splendid seat of learning to cater to the educational needs of the youth.

Like the winds that know no barriers of caste or community, the Nawab's munificence lit the lamp of joy and contentment in many poverty-stricken families. His visionary dream has been realized through the Melvisharam Muslim Educational Society, founded in 1918, which has striven tirelessly to transform primary, secondary, and higher education into shining pillars of enlightenment, irrespective of caste, creed, community, or social status.

The work continues even today with renewed zeal and vibrant spirit, with the progress and welfare of students as the ultimate goal.

Brief History of the College

The establishment of the Melvisharam Muslim Educational Society (MMES) in 1918 marked a significant turning point in the educational development of Melvisharam. What was once a town without even a proper primary school has now evolved into a vibrant centre of academic excellence. Like the legendary “Tree of Bounty,” the Society has created numerous opportunities for education at the Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary, Collegiate, Engineering, and Professional levels.

Today, the Society manages twelve educational institutions, reflecting the dedication and tireless efforts of its members who have consistently worked for the educational advancement of the community and the region.

The most revered name in the history of the Society is Nawab C. Abdul Hakeem Sahib, a distinguished philanthropist whose vision and generosity laid the foundation for educational growth in the region. Although not formally highly educated, he opened the doors of knowledge for thousands of young students, enabling them to pursue education in Secondary, Higher Secondary, Collegiate, Engineering, and Architecture fields.

His grandson, Alijanab Alhaj S. M. Abdul Jameel Saheb, significantly contributed to the expansion and strengthening of the Society and its institutions. Known for his simplicity, sincerity, and integrity, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the noble cause of education.

Continuing this legacy, Alijanab Alhaj S. Ziauddeen Ahmed Saheb has been carrying forward the torch of selfless service for several decades, guiding the institutions towards progress and excellence. Under his leadership, the institutions have grown in reputation and academic strength.

Presently, Alijanab Alhaj S. Z. Abrar Ahmed Saheb, Secretary and Correspondent, is striving tirelessly to elevate the college to greater academic heights and national recognition.

The C. Abdul Hakeem College, established in 1965 and celebrated its Golden Jubilee in February 2016, continues to advance the noble mission of providing quality education. The institution has steadily expanded its academic programmes, research activities, and extension initiatives.
